When mum and dad decided to end their marriage, this does not mean they do not love their child any less. On the contrary, the breakdown of marriage can bring the relationship between parent and child closer, bringing out the protective instincts in both mum and dad, if the separation is correctly dealt with.

It is always important that your children receive unconditional love from both parents. The effort of working through of a difficult custody deal must be directed by careful actions of the adults involved. Relieving your child of the stress of dislocation, and helping them to keep hold of their connection with both parents is generally the best you can do for a child.

Having said it all, you want to send a message to your child that even good marriages fail, and you still love them the same after the painful divorce.
