excellent choice of remote control June 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this based on the other reviews on this site, and I agree with them. The control is light and easy balanced / useable with one hand. The buttons are well laid out and easy to find without looking. The volume up / down are inner and outer beveled so again easy to find / feel. I also like the fact that it does not waste batteries on a fancy light up lcd display, which is no use when all you want is to change channel most of the time. This means the batteries last longer and it does what its meant to do well. I have a range of hardware from a panasonic plasma, eltax home cinema, panasonic dvd writer, virgin v+ vbox, and it controls them all without any problems at all. I spent about 10 mins sampling the signal from the V+ box so that i could put more if its functions on the remote to get into more menus etc, and also sampled the tv volume controls onto the same SAT option on the remote so that i did not have to change mode for volume on the tv, which is excellent.
Perfect remote, nice an cheap, easy to use and program.!
Great!! May 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My first foray into Universal remotes after girlfriend's nagging about the breeding remotes in the front room.. set it up in 20 mins.. using the pre supplied codes or its own search function. only thing I have yet to sort out is my Arcam CD player.. which barely functions via its own remote let alone anyone else's. totally recommended although I did find their website slightly awkward as I wanted to email them about my Arcam.. maybe thats just me? So now i have gone from LG TV, Onkyo DVD, Sky +, Cambridge AV AMP to one nifty device. Can select Amplifier channels with ease. Sky is perfect as is all else. I am sure I can program all other functions in time.
Great all in one April 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bough this after reading the reviews and have to say they are correct. I have had a few all in one remotes and they have never been amazing, this one is. It took me 20 minutes in total to be up and running. 10 minutes to read through the instruction booklet and 10 to set it up. By looking in the index for your make of TV, (for example) you will find a code or codes specific to that make which you put into the remote. This then enables you to perform the functions of your (soon to be defunk) remote. The code only goes in once and your away OR you can make it learn from your existing remote by pointing it to the old one and performing a few button presses OR by a search method whereby you point the remote at the TV (for example) and it searches for the code itself though you can end up pressing the search button a lot but hey its not difficult.
You can also programme macro shortcuts that will perform a sequence of commands at the press of one button e.g TV on, DVD on, AMP on, select DVD channel on TV, play DVD, which is one of the best features on it.
Quality is excellent and it feels right in your hand (ahem) and the button layout is quite intuitive. The specific control buttons at the top light up in a red glow and the up,down, left, right wheel is excellent too. So for all those technophobes out there, this is a device that you can easily set up and use without any issue at all.
EXCELLENT! March 16, 2008 This is the best universal remote i've tried - and i've tried loads!
It works with anything, even my ATEC av421ds tv (no sky remote vol. control) the learning function is so easy to use unlike many other remotes out there.
This is a good purchase March 13, 2008 I needed a universal remote to work my new Panasonic HDTV, new Panasonic VCR-DVD combo, Skyplus, Sony Sound System and Televes Satellite receiver. The URC7556.5 seemed the ideal solution and after two weeks of testing I can safely say it has lived up to its reputation.
I particularly like the simplicity of operation, the easy to understand instruction booklet (not written in Sanskrit but mostly recognisable English), the very straightforward learning function and the fact that there are surprisingly few buttons to press - it is not a confusion of choices and guesswork.
I also like the prompt response I had from customer services when I discovered the my new TV was even newer than the pre-programs on the remote. My questions were answered and my problems dealt with immediately. It has also (nearly) passed the wife's technophobe test. A rare achievement.
Niggles? The finish is lovely and shiny and it looks a treat on the table. However it's a touch less than practical. It's more "display" than "use" as it get covered in finger prints etc. and it is also a bit on the slippery side. There is one button on mine which, while not completely faulty, works less well and this is a production fault - I'm sure they would replace it but not worth the hassle.
Overall the URC7556 is excellent, certainly the best remote I've had over the years and at under 20 it would be churlish of me to dock even half a point for my niggles. Buy one with confidence.
